The New KCC employees have renewed strike threats after attempts to have their grievances addressed by the company’s management failed.
Through Kenya Union of Commercial Food and Allied Workers (KUCFAW), workers at the State milk processor, gave the company management 14 days to show cause why they should not down their tools, with three days already gone.
In a letter written and signed by KUCFAW General Secretary, Boniface Kavuvi, the workers are claiming that the management has failed to honour agreements made on two occasions in October last year, which led to the suspension of the strike.
The strike notice was issued on September 29, 2023 but called off after the Federation of Kenya Employers (FKE) and KUCFAW, the workers’ Union mediated the dispute. It’s understood that the two sides agreed on the way to address concerns raised by the workers and planned a further meeting on October 17.
The workers issued the strike notice following failed attempts to get the attention of New KCC management regarding a number of issues including failure to provide them with Personal Protective Equipments (PPEs).
