More than 100 ODM aspirants for National Assembly and County assembly seats in Kisii County have cautioned the Party against issuing direct tickets.
The aspirants claimed the party was keen on ‘repeating the same mistakes that it made in 2017 which led it not to win a single parliamentary seat in the county.
Speaking in kissi town, the County assembly deputy speaker Davins Onuso, who is eyeing the Bobasi Parliamentary seat, said indications on the ground did not reveal any preparations for nomination exercises, heightening fears of planned issuance of direct tickets.
“We don’t have a party register. We have no polling station set aside for the nominations and candidates for various seats have not been briefed on what is expected of them. If the party does not put things in order, we shall defect, “said Onuso.
He added that party members were okay with Dagoretti South MP Simba Arati being given direct ticket for Governor and MP Richard Onyonka being given direct ticket for Senate since they did not have direct competitors.
Former Nyaribari Chache MP Chris Bichage accused powerful individuals within the Party of being out to sabotage the party adding that he worked closely with party leader Raila Odinga since their days in national Development party, and would not seat and watch as the party is destroyed from within.
He called on Raila to reign in on party officials out to mess ODM, saying that if left unchecked, the party might end up with few MPs denying it foot soldiers to push it’s agenda in Parliament.
The latest disquiet comes days after the party handed a direct ticket to Woman Representative Janet Ongera to defend he seat.
